Homemade Ranch Dip with Garden Herbs

When celery, carrots, and cucumbers start to harvest from the garden, I crave ranch dip.

But who am I kidding? My kids put ranch dressing and dip on everything it seems. While I’m not a food purist, I would prefer a homemade version to the bottled. And if I can use my own homegrown herbs? Even better!

It’s hard, however, to find a healthier alternative to anything that my kids actually enjoy. This recipe, though, they actually eat when I’m NOT offering it to them. (It disappears from the refrigerator without my knowing — a true sign that it’s a winner!)

In case you’re new here, let me be clear. I’m not a cook. I love to grow my own food and teach others how to do the same, but I leave the cooking to the food bloggers who actually know what they’re doing.

But, if I find a delicious recipe that even I can make, I can’t help but share it!

Garden Ranch Dip

  • 1 cup sour cream (or 3/4 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt)
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)
  • pinch of ground cayenne pepper
  • 2-3 drops of Worcestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients and chill for an hour prior to serving.

If you’re growing your own herbs, this dip will pack a flavorful punch! Note that although I love to use fresh herbs, I prefer to use dried ones in this recipe. When I’ve used fresh herbs here, I’ve found a more gummed-up consistency, and the flavors didn’t meld quite as well.

  1. This is exactly what I have been needing! I was just using ranch tonight and wishing to find something healthier! How long would you say it lasts in the fridge?

    1. Probably about a week, maybe longer. We eat ours quicker. 🙂 But if you’re using dry ingredients, it would have the same shelf life as the sour cream.
