When I first started trying to save money on groceries and household items, I almost gave up. Instead of seeing significant savings, I saw my grocery bill actually increase slightly. Matt joked that we might go broke saving money.
That was November of last year, and this past Saturday was actually the first time I’ve seen any signficant savings. Looking back, I realized that this saving money thing was going to take some time.
Why?
It takes time to stock up on my regular items because they go on sale at different times. And while I’m stocking up, my weekly needs really go unchanged. So in addition to shopping as usual, I was actually adding to my budget in the very beginning.
I’m thankful I didn’t give up, though. Little by little, I saw my grocery budget decrease. Last week I spent less than half of what my normally would have spent.
I’ve learned a lot, and I still have so far to go, but in the next few weeks I’m going to share some information I’ve come upon along the way. My hope is that you can take from my experience and cater these suggestions to your own lifestyle, needs, time availability, and budget.
